SARATOGA SPRINGS — “Over Saratoga Springs we’re gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.” The song spilled out into the hallway from the H. Dutcher Community Room in the Saratoga Springs Public Library, where men, women and children were gathering to commit themselves to a day of service. Brothers Jesse and Emmet Golden-Marx are students from Brown University who are finishing up their school break with some volunteering.“We just wanted to give back to the community,” Emmet Golden-Marx said, climbing down off a ladder with a paint can and brush in hand.

Our sincere thank you to the Community Foundation Standish Family Fund for a $10,000 grant! This money will provide much needed repairs for several homeowners who desperately need the help. We thank the Commmunity Foundation and especially the Standish Family who realize they are not just giving support, but are making an investment in their community. The return on that investment is a stronger, more vibrant community where our neighbors can realize opportunites they may not otherwise have been able to achieve. |

A Role Model for all ages........

Owen Yonkin, son of Rachel Alderman and Matt Yonkin
Last year Owen Yonkin had a birthday party and instead of birthday gifts from his friends, he requested money in order to donate to Rebuilding Together Saratoga. We gave him a "Golden Hammer" and asked him to visit a work site in the spring. He visited his Dad in the spring who was volunteering on a worksite in Gansevoort. Once again, this generous little boy decided to help Rebuilding Together Saratoga. Instead of birthday presents, Owen requested that the children buy some tools or supplies, which he would then donate to us. Owen is an inspiration to all of us, young and old. Thank you Owen!

2011 Volunteer of the Year!
Sherie Grinter

Sherie has been volunteering with RTSC for the past 8 years. Her primary role is Volunteer Coordinator but always helps in whatever capacity is needed, both on workdays as well as in the office. As the Volunteer Coordinator, she works with the House Captain on the project days. This includes sign in/out, safety checks/gear, lunch/water, running to the hardware store - whatever needs to be done all in the effort to make the workday a positive experience for our volunteers. Sherie is from Corinth and also takes care of a menagerie of animals she has rescued which includes reptiles, birds and the four legged kind. Sherie can be described as a true humanitarian. When she is not caring for her animals, she will also volunteer for other agencies and is the first to reach out during times of natural disaster as recently happened with Irene. We are grateful for Sherie's continued support and involvement and consider her a friend with a very big heart. Thank You and Congratulations Sherie!
